New ‘Kid’ parallels original in story and heart
The summer box office could use a good shot in the arm — or kung fu kick — and the makers of “The Karate Kid” hope to deliver it this weekend. It has been 26 years since the original movie opened to good reviews, made $100 million at the box office (double that amount in today’s dollars) and earned an Oscar nomination for supporting actor Noriyuki “Pat” Morita, who played Mr. Miyagi.
